Our coaches are our most valuable assets. We are constantly in need of more coaches as our club grows.
If you are interested in coaching at any of our age levels, or would like more information please contact our coach coordinator at coaches@columbiacountyunited.com
Our Coaches Code of Conduct:
- Take a coaching clinic or work on earning your coaching license. Visit the OYSA site for more information and schedules on clinics and coaching license courses.
- Be accepting of the referee’s decisions. No foul or abusive language. Remember most of these youth referees are in training.
- Remain calm.
- Do not make loud, offensive remarks.
- Concentrate on coaching, rather than on the accuracy of the referee’s decisions.
- Be a role model of fair play and sportsmanship.
- Be positive; avoid confrontations with any official.
- During games, leave the decisions to the players.
- Attend coaching classes to learn the most effective way to conduct practices.
- Give good guidelines to parents.
- Give positive reinforcement – Avoid negative comments.
- Be firm with parents at games – You are responsible for their actions.
- Teach fair tactics and skills appropriate to the player.
- Discourage unfair gamesmanship.
- Communicate with parents often via email, TeamSnap, and social gatherings.
- Play the game and encourage parents to play and volunteer.
- Ask the club and board for support and help.
- This is a Rec. League. No score or state are to be kept.
- Give parents a code of conduct and coaching philosophy at the first practice so they know what is to be expected.
Additionally, below you will find information and links on the 3 items that must be completed by each coach prior to the season:
1. OYSA Background Check Program
2. Concussion Training
3. SafeSport
At any time that you have questions, please contact the club at coaches@columbiacountyunited.com
OYSA BACKGROUND
All coaches, assistant coaches, team managers (any volunteer that will be on the field helping with practice or games) must have a background check through OYSA and must have completed the Concussion in Sports online class.
This background check is not connected to any other background check program, so if you have a job that requires a background check (law enforcement, teacher, etc) you must still complete the OYSA background check. Click on the link below to be redirected to the OYSA site to complete your background check. Please make sure if you are creating a new account that you use the same name, phone number and email address that you used in our registration program. The background check expires 8/31 each year so it must be completed for the fall season each year.
CONCUSSION TRAINING
The Concussion in Sports is a free online course that must be completed yearly. The certificate expires at the end of the year. If you coach for Scappoose in our spring league, you do not need to complete it for the fall. When you have completed the course and passed the test, you will received an electronic certificate of completion. Please forward a copy of this to the registrar. Click on the link below to be redirected to the Concussion in Sports online course.
Concussion in Sports Online Course
SAFESPORT
Beginning with the 2019/2020 season, all volunteers will need to complete the SafeSport Reporting Course in order to be eligible to coach. This course is online and is free. You will need to create an account. When setting up the account, select US Soccer and enter the access code. If you do not have the access code for the course please email us at coaches@columbiacountyunited.com and we will get you the code (for registrations after 5/21/19 it is located in your registration confirmation email). Once you have completed the course, you will be issued a certificate that will need to be uploaded to your Affinity profile (same system you did your background check in). Please allow a minimum of 2 hours to complete the online course. First-time users will need to enter this code YC3E-6P5G-YYIL-CS2M and then create an account.
Grassroots and D Courses
Grassroots Courses focus on U.S. Soccer’s Coaching Education Philosophy, Play-Practice-Play Methodology, the Six Tasks of a Coach, and the characteristics of players in that specific game model (4v4, 7v7, 9v9, 11v11). The top link allows you to take a free class. The goal here is to do the basic education in preparation of coaching some amazing kids.
